So, I have been playing Halo 3 now since the launch on the 25 of September. I have also been playing the Halo series since the launch of the Xbox in Australia. I played the first game through about 10 times and would class it as one of my top 10 all time games. The second installment was good but not as great as the first, and I wasn’t playing online at the time although I did try it a couple of times. Now we come to Halo 3, the biggest release since GTA San Andreas. I’m really enjoying the game but have found some things that really bug me. So I will go through what I think are the 5 best and worst things about the game. We will start with the worst so we can come home on a high note.
The Worst
5. The amount of Lag in Team Slayer.
Most of you will be thinking “that’s because your internet connection is crap”, and whilst I’m not going to deny that it is part of the problem its not the whole problem. I mean I can play in 16 player matches on Rainbow 6 and GRAW 2 without any lag issues. I haven’t played a decent Team game in Halo 3 yet. I think the problem might be the “search for a match” function is teaming me up with overseas gamers, which is completely average considering the amount of Aussie gamers playing. This brings us to number 4.
4. You can’t pick who you play with in ranked matches.
Some people will argue this point and the argument will be mentioned in my ‘best things about the game’ section. But the worst thing about not being able to play a rank match with the people you choose, is you can get stuck with overseas players and the lag is unbearable. Also you can get stuck with ignorant teens who think being a racist twat is funny.
3 . You can’t drop-in/out of Co-Op Campaign.
This is a serious problem, the Co-Op Campaign mode in Halo 3 makes the average single player mode a lot more fun. And the only problem I have with it is you can’t have a mate drop-in to join the fun. And if someone drops-out then boom!, you’re all gone. This is a huge problem as far as I’m concerned, considering the amount of people dropping out because of the amount of Red Eye Halo 3 is creating. Further, considering that Gears of War features drop-on and drop-out, then why can’t a game released nearly a year later manage this?
2. The story is completely stupid.
The story in Halo 3 is boring and stupid, the plot is so hard to follow and I’ve played the first two games. I can’t imagine the pain gamers went though who haven’t played the earlier series. And you can’t skip it. Many people will say it doesn’t matter that the story sucks, but it does. Most of the best games I’ve played have great stories.
1. It produces the 360’s Red Ring Of Death!!!
I didn’t believe this statement until it happened to me and about 100,000 other people. What a f*cking heap of shite!!! What more can I say. It wouldn’t be the worst thing if when you rang M$ they were helpful, but they’re not. And with the amount of money they are raking in with this game, you think they would come to the party, right?!
The Best
Now I’ve had my rant about what I hate about Halo 3, I will tell you what I love about it.
5. Sticky Grenades
Sticky grenades are justice, there is no better feeling then sticking a grenade to a player that is about to p3wn you. I've gotta’ say they are one of the best weapons in any game. Up there with the proximity mines in Golden eye.
4. The consistency of the weapons.
I love how all the weapons are so consistent. Every time I get killed I don’t feel cheated, I know I was killed by a better player. I can’t say the same about many other XB live games. The weapons always shot how there meant too and they always do the same amount of damage.
3. The online ranked match making.
I do like this feature, I just think it could be a little better. I think its great that it makes you play different maps and game types, as it makes you a better player. And as you become a better player so do you opponent’s, which makes it a real challenge to go up ranks.
2. The after match replay video.
How cool is this feature, I love watching myself killing other players. Its also great to watch better gamers kill you and check what you do wrong so you can get better.
1. The Co-Op Campaign.
The Co-Op Campaign mode is great fun. It makes the usually average campaign a lot more playable. Other than the drop-in/out issue I think it is the best thing about the game.
That wraps it up for me, I think Halo 3 is a great game. I wouldn’t say its the greatest game ever, I wouldn’t even say its better then Halo 1, but it’s a lot of fun. This game has been taking a beating from angry gamers the world over. It seems people are just intent on trying to destroy this game and make people who are enjoying it second guess themselves. If you like the game play it. If you don’t like it, don’t play it and SHUT YOUR MOUTH about it.
