Guitar Hero III Wii Replacement in Australia

Tuesday 4th March-2008

Despite being as rare as hen's teeth to buy back in the 2007/08 holiday season, Guitar Hero III for the Nintendo Wii was hampered by one small problem - its advertised multi-channel sound was actually in mono.  Not that mono sound recordings are necessarily 'bad' – after all, some of the greatest blues and jazz recordings up until the 1960s were done in mono – but when your computer game is mixed for surround crowd channels, and you have un-intended stereo music tracks collapsed down to mono, you start to suffer from certain frequencies cancelling each out and others delivering an undesired boost.

And whilst Australia is the arse end of the world in almost every tech and consumer way, Activision Australia has begun the long awaited re-issue of the correct multi-channel version.  Activision confirmed to NextGEN Gamers that they have now received their first batch of discs, stamped from the correct multi-channel master.  Wii customers who wish to upgrade their Guitar Hero III are encouraged to phone Activision's tech line and, after providing the details of where you originally purchased your mono copy, Activision will add you to the shipment list for the new version.  No need to send discs in for a swap, or return to your store of purchase, as Activision will mail it out to you starting from March 3.

The standard line they would like you to call them on is a $2.95 per minute one.  Since their email support is now closed, and since this was their stuff up in the first place, NextGEN Gamers feels it is only right that you not have to pay more money just to have your name put on the list.  So here is their LAN line here in Sydney: (02) 9869 0955.

With multi-channel sound now back with the Wii, along with the rumble feature and bad-note sounds exclusive to the Wiimote, this makes the Nintendo platform the best one for the latest GH installment!
