Xbox Live Problems

Welcome to day 19 of Microsoft’s Xbox Live Issues. NextGEN Gamers can still not confirm what has been the actual cause, but we can confirm the following is still happening:

  1. People are still not able to connect to servers correctly. This problem seems intermittent, but makes playing games like Call of duty 4 and Halo 3 near impossible. If you do get into a lobby, matches often fail or you are kicked after the match. Currently for COD4 it seems to be worse every second day.
  2. Many of the gamers who put in codes for Microsoft points during the first week of the Xbox live outages lost their points and Microsoft is still doing nothing about it. If you still have your card, you need to re- enter the code to claim your points. Gamers who threw away the cards after getting their points (but then had them vanish) are left with no recourse. (cheers M$)
  3. Connecting to Xbox live is still slow. Logging into live from your dashboard can take up to 3 minutes or more and even then it will fail. After doing your network check it will all be fine (except) the Xbox live test will show an error for the Live section. Please do not waste time setting up your network or router as this is a server issue, not your home network or Xbox 360.
  4. Friends who are online or in the same lobby as you are still popping up as “Online” even though they have been online for hours.
  5. Duplicate friends on your friends list (WTF?) I doubt anyone can explain why this is happening, remember they are two separate friends, but one name and bio has just overwritten someone else.

There are many theories as to what is happening to the service ranging from a massive influx of “Christmas n00bs” to Microsoft juggling the 4 Xbox live servers while they launch a new 5th one. The point is that this is inexcusable as it is the holiday season and secondly for lack of information given to subscribers of the service.

Lexx says: “Microsoft, we don’t care about a free game for compensation, I mean who wants yet another copy of Uno? We just want to be kept in the loop as to what is happening and be able to play with our XBL friends”.

Lets hope this issue is resolved soon.

Update!

Day 23 and we can confirm that due to a lawsuit that was filed against Microsoft last month by three Texas residents (on the grounds that Microsoft has failed to keep Xbox Live functional), Microsoft has apparently been unable to update the rest of us subscribers on the progress of the outages and give us an ETA on normal resumption of the Xbox Live service. As for the service it’s self we are still experiencing lengthy log-in times and poor game matching / server speeds in Call of Duty 4, Halo 3 and Gears of War.

Oh, and to those of you out there who haven’t noticed a thing? You are either extremely lucky or are in the same camp as the people denying that anyone actually got the Red Rings of Death – and we all know how that turned out – 3 consoles later.
