Gran Turismo NGG League

I have a plan. I'm also prepared to run it. A long time ago, way back when, I used to race NASCAR on PC using NASCAR Racing 2003. It was without doubt, and in my opinion still is, the best NASCAR game. Ever.

Tragically due to real life commitments I had to give it up. Also my laptop just doesn't cut it to play them. So my idea is we start a Gran Tursimo league. There will be a set season of races, using pre-determined vehicle classes. Seasons will be fairly short to avoid competitor drop-outs, I'm thinking in the region of 5 to 8 races. In my experience this kept most people interested. There would also be set standards that would be adhered to involving driving aids etc to avoid unfair advantages (traction control/ABS setting etc).

Obviously this can't happen until GT5 is released, but I would like to gauge numbers interested. The game should accommodate up to 16 people per race which, for us, should be plenty. Given the vast array of racing categories involved we should have plenty of options too.

I think given how many options GT5 is going to give us we would be mad to pass this up. I also believe that should this get off the ground more people would join NGG for the racing aspect.

Any ideas/suggestions welcomed.

Yeah I'll probably get this too. I'm rubbish at racing simulators, arcade racers are more my thing.... But it looks too good to pass up.

This is the part from the website that caught my eye, making it relatively easy to get this off the ground.

Races and Track Days
First and foremost is the Race. In addition to the free match races as seen in Gran Turismo 5 Prologue where you don’t know who you’ll race against next, it will now be possible to gather your closest friends and acquaintances, set a variety of rules, and enjoy races the way you want to.
And of course racing isn’t the only thing you can do. You can host "Track Days", where everyone can drive freely on the track. You can try to reduce your laptimes, teach someone how to drive, or just enjoy drifting. There’s an infinite amount of ways to have fun here.

What isn't clear yet is whether we can have schedules, eg warm-up, qualifying, practice then race. Let's hope so.

I am really hoping for a full WRC experience in GT5. Lots of long stages, one after another, with maintenance in between each stage, maybe a navigator run to customise your won nav list which can then change depending on weather and previous drivers going through, and total customising for your car. If they have that, then I will buy a decent wheel for it.

Stage 1 of my GT5 booth has been accomplished - a hd screen just for GT5. Now to buy a car seat, a Logitech wheel and build a booth! Everything should be in place by the time GT5 comes out!

I used to have a cockpit setup for my NASCAR racing days. I still have the old wheel but the rest is gone. I'm seriously considering one of these



The main thing that grabs me with GT5 is the fact that they are selling it as a simulator and not a game.

I built one of those with pvc tubing, it is not the prettiest looking thing out there (wife loves it), but it works.
